Woody Samson is a Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist… or something close enough.

Their sets don’t start, they arrive. A pulse turns into a song. A song turns into a room. Guitar, trumpet, keys, voice — all looped and rebuilt in real time. No backing tracks, no fixed plan, just instinct and momentum.

After a turbulent childhood and 36 different houses, “home” landed somewhere unexpected — a late-night stage in Fitzroy.

Now playing 6+ gigs a week, they’ve quietly become one of the busiest musicians in Melbourne. Not by chasing it — just by showing up, again and again, and making something out of whatever the night hands them.

Some sets stay close and fragile. Others spill into full-blown singalongs. Songs stretch, collapse, reappear. Originals blur into covers. Nothing behaves for long.

They’re the music director at Baxters in Fitzroy, hosting original nights and open mics that have become a heartbeat for the local scene.

Elsewhere, they play trumpet and keys for Willowbank Grove, and guitar for The Glamour — shifting between worlds without settling in one for too long.
